A Tasting & Tour At Sister Creek Vineyards
Sister Creek Vineyards is a quaint little vineyard in the Texas Hill Country and a great place to stop during a weekend drive through the area. It has the kind of relaxed, rustic atmosphere that makes you want to slow down, spend some time tasting wines, and see if you find something you really enjoy.
I've visited with my camera before, and there are plenty of scenic photo opportunities around the property. The old rustic wooden cotton gin that houses the winery gives the place a lot of character, and the interior has plenty to photograph as well. The aging room, with rows of wine barrels, is especially interesting and gives you a glimpse into the winemaking side of the operation.
Sister Creek offers a variety of wines, including some interesting blends and carbonated wines. The carbonated wines were particularly different, with a noticeable fizz and a little more bite than the still wines. There was enough variety that even if you're not normally interested in every style of wine, it's worth trying several to see what stands out to you.
I'm more of a sweet wine drinker, so my favorite of the wines I tried was the Muscat Canelli. There were several offerings that came closer to the sweeter styles I enjoy, which made the tasting especially worthwhile for me. I always enjoy visiting wineries where I can find something that fits my personal taste rather than everything being heavily focused on dry wines.
The staff was friendly and willing to answer questions about the wines, which made the tasting experience enjoyable without feeling rushed. It's a good place to ask questions, try something you might not normally order, and learn a little more about what they produce.
Located south of Fredericksburg, Texas, Sister Creek makes a nice addition to a Hill Country road trip. Whether you're stopping specifically for a wine tasting or just happen to be driving through the area, I'd recommend making the detour. Spend some time exploring the property, snap some photos, and see if you find a wine that grabs your attention.— Paul
