  • ★★★★½ Brisket Creamed Corn Pork Ribs Visited Sep 28, 2017

BBQ Was Decent, But Everything Was A La Carte

I visited Dignowity Meats with a friend for the first time this weekend. The location is a bit hidden, and unless your looking for the place would probably just pass by without noticing.

Seating is outdoors, under a rooftop or a canopy in a fenced off area. Several picnic tables are setup with bottlecap checkerboards and wooden paper towel dispensers on them.

You order at a window, where a board lists off the items available. Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Ribs, Chopped Pork, Giant loaded Baked Potatoes and Brisket are your choices. Several sides are available including homemade butter pickles, sweet cream corn, potatoes with cheese, apple coleslaw, mac and cheese and more.

Sides are priced at about $3 a pint, meats are by the 1/4lb, and chicken by the quarter. A wide selection of beers is available ranging from $2 to $5.

I was told sandwiches are available at lunchtime, but at dinner each item is sold individually.

I ordered a 1/4 of burnt ends, a single pork rib, a pint of creamed corn, and a canned beer. My total after tax was $15. The tray that arrived at the table looked pretty empty. 2 pint sized cups, one with the corn only about 2/3 full, and one with the 1/4lb burnt ends being about 6 cubes of meat. The rib was baby back sized, and 2 pieces of bread off to the side.

The burnt ends were really good, but didn't really work to make a sandwich. They had really good smokey flavor, and were juicy and tender. The rib was pretty good as well, tender with a good sweet BBQ sauce, but they were $2.50 each and didn't have too much meat. The sweet cream corn was great. It was thick, not runny, and had a little bit of a kick to it, possibly jalapeno. It had some amazing flavor and could possibly have been roasted corn, there was something different about it.

My friend ordered the fried chicken, which was huge. Its probably the best item to order if your really hungry. It was one of the cheapest meats, and was a huge thigh with a buttermilk crust on it.

The food overall was excellent, but the cost of ordering each item a la carte made the meal a bit pricey. I could see this place taking off if they offered plates. I underordered, and think I may have been underserved on top of it. It would have cost me about $20 for a normal sized BBQ plate, before drink and tax.

I would return again, probably not order the ribs again due to thier size, but would maybe get 2 orders of burnt ends and definitely the corn again. The BBQ here is some of the better BBQ in town, but also some of the most expensive I've had portion to price wise.
