  Good Food & Good Service. An Improvement From A Previous Visit.

  I had previously posted a negative review after a visit a little over a year ago, but I returned to The Auslander today with some people from out of state, and this visit was a much better experience.
  
  We arrived around 11:30, just a few minutes ahead of the lunch crowd, and were able to get our orders in quickly. Our food was ready in about 15 minutes. I decided to try something I hadn't had here before: the stuffed cabbage rolls, with German potato salad and spaetzle as my sides.
  
  I started with the German potato salad, which had been served cold during my previous visit. This time it was hot, with crispy bacon and a good sweet-and-sour flavor. It's the scalloped-potato style of German potato salad, and I enjoyed it much more this time. The spaetzle was also decent, although I thought it could have used a little more butter for flavor.
  
  The cabbage rolls were pretty good, although I was surprised by how little cabbage there was. It seemed more like a single cabbage leaf wrapped around the rice and ground beef rather than a substantial cabbage roll. That was a little disappointing, but the wine and mushroom sauce served over the top was very good. The portion of the overall meal was decent, and I was full by the end, although I definitely would have liked more cabbage in the cabbage rolls.
  
  My travel companions ordered the chicken fried chicken and the Opa's sausage sandwich with home fries and green beans. All three of them commented that their meals were very good.
  
  The service was also a big improvement over my previous visit. Our waitress checked on us several times, offered drinks to go, and gave us the opportunity to order dessert at the end of the meal. The wait staff was on the ball throughout our visit, and the food came out quickly.
  
  Overall, this was one of the better meals I've had at The Auslander and definitely an improvement over my previous visit in terms of service, wait time, and food quality. After this visit, The Auslander has gone back to being my #1 choice for German food in Fredericksburg. This time, the food had good flavor, the portions were satisfying, and the service was excellent.
