I Come Here For The Lunch Specials
I've eaten here several times now, and Koreana is one of the better Korean restaurants in San Antonio when it comes to food and flavor. The interior is a bit dated, but the food makes up for that to a degree.
The flavors here are generally better than what I've found at many other Korean restaurants around San Antonio, and the menu offers a good selection of dishes, including most of the items you'd expect to find at other Korean restaurants. Portions are decent, and customer service has been average to good. However, despite the quality of the food, I haven't found anything that really stands out enough to justify the higher prices. Koreana is more expensive than the average Korean restaurant in San Antonio and noticeably pricier than many places I've visited in other cities.
Meals come with an assortment of side dishes meant to be shared around the table, and you can ask for refills. The sodas are served in cans rather than fountain drinks.
One thing worth noting is that lunch prices are considerably more affordable than dinner prices, especially if you're planning to order the bulgogi or LA galbi (Korean-style short ribs).
The bulgogi is pretty good here. You get a decent portion of flavorful meat along with all the side dishes. The LA galbi is also decent, but I actually prefer the bulgogi. The galbi seems to come with less meat, and I find the bulgogi has more flavor.
Overall, Koreana is a solid option for Korean food in San Antonio, particularly if you visit for lunch. The food is good, the menu has plenty of choices, and the portions are reasonable, but the prices keep it from standing out as much as it otherwise might.— Paul
