Decent Burgers, Good Fries, But A Higher Priced Meal
I've eaten at Five Guys about three times now, and while the burgers and fries are decent, I wouldn't really consider it a gourmet burger restaurant. The burger selection is fairly limited, and most of the ingredients are pretty common. The things they promote as setting them apart are that nothing is frozen, they use potatoes grown north of the 42nd parallel, which they say produce denser potatoes, and they cook their fried items in peanut oil.
The burgers do have good flavor, and the fries are better than many of the other fast-food chains I've tried. They're available either regular or Cajun seasoned, and I generally enjoy them. However, nothing about the food has really stood out enough to make me a regular customer. I've tried other chains that advertise similar things, such as fresh, never-frozen beef and fresh-cut potatoes, and I've generally found those places more impressive.
A typical meal runs around $10–15, which isn't necessarily unreasonable, but I have a hard time justifying the higher price for what I consider an average-to-good burger and fries. I'm willing to pay more when a restaurant offers something unique or has a particular item I really enjoy, but I haven't found that here.
This location itself is very clean, and the service is usually pretty quick. It can also be surprisingly empty during the later hours on weeknights, so getting in and out is usually easy.
I'll probably return again at some point, as I have in the past, but my visits tend to be pretty infrequent.— Paul
