Affordable Steakhouse, With Decent Options & Lunch Specials

I’ve eaten at The Hungry Farmer a few times over the years, but it had been many years since my last visit. I recently stopped in again and placed a to-go order for my family.

The Hungry Farmer has been around for a long time, and it’s a pretty straightforward place to get a reasonably priced steak dinner. The food is decent, service is generally quick, and even walk-in to-go orders don’t take too long. Portions aren’t especially large, but they’re adequate and enough for a filling meal.

On recent visits, I’ve tried both the hamburger steak and the chicken fried steak. Both were okay, although neither really stood out. The chicken fried steak was on the smaller side, and was a bit lacking in flavor. The hamburger steak was a little better, but it also lacked some of the richer flavor you can get from a good steakhouse version. It was somewhere in the middle. Nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable on this visit.

I’ve heard a lot of people recommend the burgers, which I still haven’t tried, so there are definitely some menu items left for me to explore.

The service has always been pretty good in my experience. On my most recent visit, I waited about 10–15 minutes from placing my order until I was back out the door, which I thought was reasonable for a walk-in steak order. While I was waiting, the cashier even offered me a drink, which was a nice touch.

The Hungry Farmer also seems to be a popular choice for people looking for an affordable meal when dining out for special occasions, particularly around holidays like Father's Day.

Overall, I think The Hungry Farmer is worth considering if you want a casual steak dinner without spending a lot of money. Most menu items fall in the $9–$13 range, making it a relatively inexpensive dinner option. The food I've had has been more average than exceptional, but the reasonable prices, quick service, and long-standing presence make it a place worth trying if you're looking for a budget-friendly steak dinner.
