Great Burgers, Good Prices, Large Portions
I’ve been eating at Chris Madrid’s for many years, so I was really glad to see it reopen after the fire. The new, remodeled building is a big improvement, offering considerably more indoor seating along with a nice outdoor area that can even accommodate live music. Despite all the changes, it still feels like the same Chris Madrid’s that San Antonio has known for years.
On my first visit back since the reopening, I brought along someone who had moved to San Antonio a few years ago but had never had the chance to experience Chris Madrid’s. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to introduce them to one of my favorite local burger spots.
The food was just as good as I remembered. The burgers have that old-fashioned, classic flavor that makes them stand out from the typical fast-food burger. If you order one with cheese, they don't hold back—the cheese practically overflows around the patty. There are also plenty of topping options, and if you're really hungry, you can order the "Macho" version of the burgers, which are twice the size.
Even with a fairly long line when we arrived, the line moved quickly and our food came out surprisingly fast. Everything was hot, fresh, and just as I had remembered it.
The restaurant may be busier than it was before the fire, but the larger space and the staff seem to be handling the increased traffic well. The remodeling has added a lot without taking away from what made the restaurant special in the first place.
Chris Madrid’s remains one of my favorite places for a burger in San Antonio. If you’ve never been, it's definitely a place worth trying—especially if you're looking for a classic, old-fashioned burger with plenty of cheese and toppings.— Paul
