Catfish Was Thin, Dry, & Unimpressive. Other Items Were Better

I had high hopes for Dixie Grill after seeing it listed among the top places to eat in Seguin on TripAdvisor. I had noticed the mixed reviews on Google, but decided to give it a try and stick with some of the higher-rated items.

The meal started with a whole pitcher of Dr Pepper brought to the table, which was a nice touch. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried pickles, and the basket was huge. The pickles were sliced thin and nicely battered, with good flavor. There was easily enough in the basket to share with a table of four.

For my main course, I ordered the fried catfish plate. It came with three filets, but they were quite thin. Unfortunately, the fish didn't have much flavor and was a little tough, which I think was partly due to how thin the filets were. The portion of fish also felt pretty small for the price.

The coleslaw, on the other hand, was excellent. It had a strong vinegar flavor, plenty of cracked pepper, and a nice crisp texture. It was easily one of the better vinegar-based coleslaws I've had. The hushpuppies were okay as well. The centers were soft, but the outside was a little more well-done than I prefer.

By the end of the meal, I felt like I had eaten a lunch of pickles and coleslaw more than a plate of fried catfish. The fish itself didn't leave much of an impression due to the small portion, lack of flavor & dryness. For a $12 plate, I was expecting better quality.

This was my first visit to Dixie Grill, and unfortunately, the experience didn't really win me over. While the huge appetizer and pitcher of Dr Pepper was a nice start. The rest of the meal fell short of expectations.
