People Say They Are The Best Cheese Enchiladas In Town

This isn't my first time eating at Blanco Cafe, and I'm back again because this place serves what are arguably some of the best cheese enchiladas in town. The biggest point of contention among people seems to be the enchilada sauce.

Blanco Cafe uses a meat-based, chili-style sauce on its enchiladas. Some people love it, while others really don't like it. I've seen people go as far as comparing it to canned chili, but I think that's an exaggeration. The sauce isn't thick like canned chili; it's more of a gravy consistency, with a decent amount of meat throughout and a good blend of chili powder and seasonings.

Personally, I love it. The cheese enchiladas are excellent, and I really like the flavor the chili sauce brings to the plate. Served with rice and refried beans that are both flavorful, the entire combination works really well. The chili and rice especially go together, and I often find myself mixing the two together.

The menu has a huge variety of combination plates. You can get three-enchilada combinations with beef, chicken, and cheese, along with choices of verde or chili sauce. There are also plates with tacos, chalupas, puffy tacos, and combinations of just about everything I've mentioned. If the exact combination you want isn't listed, there's even a $2 substitution option that allows you to customize your plate and create just about any combination you can think of.

The enchiladas are popular enough that there's actually a catering menu board at the register, including an option for 90 enchiladas. That's a pretty good indication of how much of a staple they are here.

Dine-in service has always been good in my experience. Even when the restaurant is busy, you generally receive a decent level of attention, and the food has been consistent regardless of the time of day or whether you're there during the lunch rush.

If you're a fan of San Antonio-style Mexican food, the cheese enchiladas here are definitely worth trying, especially if you enjoy a chili-based meat sauce.
