  • ★★★★½ Beignets Crawfish Boil Visited Jul 1, 2018

Good Flavor, But Not Much Spice Internally, Just Sauced On Outside

This was my first visit to La Crawfish. I'd passed their locations in Houston several times over the years and always wondered what they had on the menu. Now that we have a location in San Antonio, I finally decided to give it a try.

The biggest difference between La Crawfish and other Cajun crab boil restaurants is that everything is ordered à la carte. You won't find pre-prepared bowls containing a little bit of everything, so if you want to sample a good variety of seafood, sides, and other items, this is a place that's best visited with a group. Another nice perk is that the restaurant is BYOB.

Seafood prices are pretty reasonable, and the crawfish comes with several choices of seasoning and spice levels. One thing I particularly liked was how the crawfish was served in a bag filled with the seasoning and sauce. After peeling the crawfish, there was plenty of flavorful sauce left to dip the meat into, which made the experience even better. My only criticism would be that all the flavor is from the sauce on the outside, and that they didn't seem to have much flavor internally.

There's also a small station off to the side where you can find additional spices and sauces. The menu offers a good variety, too. While seafood boils are the main attraction, they also serve Vietnamese soups, sandwiches, and desserts.

For my first visit, I ordered a pound of crawfish, two ears of corn, a couple of red potatoes, and a link of sausage. Everything was fantastic, and I enjoyed the meal. Afterward, I went up to the counter and ordered a basket of beignets. These were a little different from what I expected, as they came as long strips rather than the usual biscuit-like pieces. They were freshly made, though, and had good flavor.

I'm definitely planning another visit, and next time I'll bring some friends so we can order a wider variety of items and share everything. Between the flavorful crawfish, reasonable seafood prices, and broader menu, La Crawfish is a great option for Cajun-style seafood boils. I highly recommend giving it a try if you're a fan of crawfish and seafood.
