Cheese Tea? Im Not Sure What To Expect
This was my first visit to Lustea. A friend had told me about cheese tea, and since there aren't too many places around here offering it, I decided to give it a try.
If you've never had cheese tea before, the name is probably going to make you wonder exactly what you're getting. Despite the name, it's not tea with a slice of cheese floating in it. Cheese tea is typically a cold tea topped with a thick, whipped foam made from cream cheese, milk or cream, sugar, and a small amount of salt. The result is a combination of sweet, creamy, slightly tangy, and salty flavors layered over the tea.
I tried the Matcha Cheese Tea since this was my first experience with cheese tea and I know I generally like Matcha items. It was okay, although it wasn't quite what I was expecting. The creamy topping was definitely different from anything I've had in a tea drink before. As I got toward the bottom and more of the cheese foam mixed with the matcha, I found it a little saltier than I'd prefer. The saltiness is actually an intentional part of cheese tea, since it's meant to balance the sweetness and bitterness of the tea, but it just wasn't quite my preferred flavor combination.
That said, I'm glad I gave it a try. There were several other drinks on the menu that looked pretty good, so I may go back and try something different on my next visit.
Prices were fair and the portions were a decent size. It was an interesting first experience with something I had never tried before, and Lustea gave me a chance to finally see what cheese tea was all about.— Paul
