Was Impressed - Couldn't Tell It Wasn't Chicken
This was my first time eating here, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was skeptical that a vegan-based chicken substitute would actually be any good, but I decided to give it a try. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich with coleslaw, tater tots, and a soda.
We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and the staff was friendly and happy to answer questions. When we mentioned that it was my first time there, they made some recommendations and even told me that if I wasn't happy with what I ordered, they would replace it. That was a great first impression.
The menu is primarily made up of plant-based chicken items, along with a few vegan burgers, fries, loaded fries, and tater tots.
The chicken in my sandwich had really good flavor, and there was a little grease dripping from it, but it was hot and crispy. The seasoning and sauce did a great job of masking the fact that it wasn't actually chicken. The texture was where I noticed the difference most. Inside the crispy breaded exterior, the meat substitute was a little mushy and stringy, with a texture that reminded me more of processed fish than chicken.
The tater tots were hot and crispy, and my friend's loaded fries were also very good. They had good flavor and were topped with a sauce and chopped peppers. The soda machine featured Maine Root organic sodas, which was a nice touch. Everything we tried was tasty.
Overall, the food came out quickly, the portions were decent, the service was excellent, and everything was served hot and crispy. My biggest issue was the price. My chicken sandwich, plain tater tots, and a soda came to about $12.
I understand what you're paying for here. The restaurant donates food to people in need, uses eco-friendly paper-based containers and straws, and the food is organic or vegan-based. I like the concept behind the restaurant, and I appreciate what they're trying to accomplish. At the same time, the price of the meal definitely made me aware of what I was paying for.
The food was actually much better than I expected and exceeded my expectations. I'd love to come back and try some of the other items, but since I'm not vegan and have other, more affordable options available, the price may ultimately be the deciding factor for me.— Paul
