Food Wasnt Right & Service Was Pretty Poor

This was my first time eating here, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing, mainly because of the service and the beef salad.

Things got off to a rough start when my waiter, who was new, seemed unfamiliar with the menu. I had to order by item numbers rather than names, and at one point, he asked whether I wanted chicken, beef, or pork in the beef salad. When he then asked if I wanted a large or small, I got up and went to the counter to ask the manager about the portion options. That's when I learned the waiter had actually ordered the wrong dish for me: Tom Yum soup instead of Yum Nua, the Thai beef salad.

My Pad Thai was much better. The portion was huge, and the flavor was pretty good overall. I would have liked more green onions and bean sprouts, and the peanuts were a bit stale and chewy, but otherwise, I enjoyed it.

I took the beef salad home to eat later that evening. When I opened the container, I discovered there was no lettuce at all, just beef in lime juice with cilantro, green onions, and cucumber. I also didn't see any red onion, and the dish had only tiny bits of bean sprouts and a decent amount of chopped tomato. Some Thai restaurants serve beef salad with steamed rice, but there was none included here. The portion was also considerably smaller than my Pad Thai.

At first, I wondered whether this restaurant simply prepared its beef salad differently, so I checked the menu photos. The description specifically listed lettuce as an ingredient. I thought perhaps the lettuce had been packed separately and accidentally left out of my bag, so I held off on writing this review until I could call the restaurant the next day.

When I called, I spoke with the same employee I'd talked to the night before. I explained that my beef salad had no lettuce or red onion and that the portion seemed unusually small. He said they sometimes make it that way, despite the menu listing lettuce as an ingredient. When I mentioned the small portion, he explained that it was a salad, so it was smaller. However, Yum Nua is an entrée, and I've never had a Thai beef salad that didn't include lettuce.

As for the beef salad I received, it was just okay. The flavor was decent, but nothing special, and the small portion and missing ingredients made it even more disappointing. There was no offer to correct the order or make things right.

Had I ordered only the Pad Thai, I probably would have given this restaurant a better review. Unfortunately, the beef salad and the way the issue was handled brought down the entire experience even further. I eat Thai food frequently, so I have plenty of other places to compare it with. I'm not sure whether I'll return, but this first visit certainly didn't leave me eager to come back.
