Cheesesteak & Shishito Peppers, A Varied Menu Of Food & Beer

The restaurant located just off the main street, is a largish wooden building. It had banners outside advertising specials, happy hours and other events. The location was pretty crowded, with a lot of people seemingly just enjoying the bar like atmosphere.

I was stopping in for the first time and decided to try one of the cheesesteak sandwich along with an order of shishito peppers and local beer. Due to the crowd it took a bit for the food to come out, but when it did it looked visually appetizing.

However, the food didn't deliver the flavor it appeared to have. The shishito peppers were all hot, which was unusual since normally only a small percentage of them usually have heat. They were also heavily also over-salted, combined with the soy sauce that was over them. The cheesesteak was just okay. While It wasn't bad, the meat was super thin, and crisped from overcooking on the grill, the meats moisture was gone, and some pieces were even crunchy. The sandwich not only didnt taste like a cheesesteak sandwich, but had mediocre flavor and meat that lacked any flavor. But after the long wait I didnt bother to send it back.

What I did like was that the menu offered some things that were different from what I was finding elsewhere in Pagosa Springs. The cheesesteak and shishito peppers were not the typical options you could find at just any restaurant in town, so it was nice to have some variety. My hope is that the bar and restaurant will progress, with a menu of items that customers love, and be like the varied menu that I saw this visit.

I also ordered a glass of their beer and took a few pint glasses and a growler to go. The beer was actually the part of the visit that I enjoyed most. It was the Wolf Creek Wheat, a copper colored wheat beer, which is a bit different, but had pretty good flavor. I would definitely consider coming back to have a few beers with friends. It looks like a good place to enjoy the evening atmosphere, and there isnt a big night life in Pagosa Springs. However I might choose to get diner somewhere else first. Some of the menu items might work well as a snack while enjoying the beer, but I came in to eat dinner and it failed to deliver.

Update: After looking at more recent menus, it appears that the cheesesteak and shishito peppers I ordered are no longer offered, and the food menu has since been simplified. The current menu has a different selection of sandwiches and other dishes.
