Tried The Saucer Burger - The Menu Has Changed & Favorites Removed
I stopped by The Flying Saucer and had hoped to order my old favorite, the Hippie Burger with a meat patty substituted for the vegetarian patty, but unfortunately that option is no longer available. I also discovered that the Rocket Tots with the cream dip were gone from the menu, which was another disappointment.
I ordered the burger with fries, but it initially came out with a salad instead. The waitress was nice enough to bring me a side of fries to go with it. She was also very helpful when I tried to order three different beers, only to find out that all three were sold out as well.
She brought me a small sampler flight of some of the newer beers on the menu so I could try a few of them instead, which I appreciated.
The Saucer Burger itself was okay, but it didn't have nearly the same amount of flavor as the old Hippie Burger. What made the Hippie Burger so good was really the combination of toppings, especially the avocado, red onion, and pesto mayo. Without those ingredients, the Saucer Burger felt more like a standard burger and just didn't have the same combination of flavors that made the Hippie Burger one of my favorites.
It was one of my favorite items, so now I have to look at the menu again and see what I need to try or what they still have that I like. The Big Dipper was still on the menu which was my second favorite item, so future visits I may be ordering that instead.— Paul

Stopped In To Get The Fathersday Pint Glass With Al Bundy On It
When I saw what the Father's Day glass was going to be, I knew I had to stop by and at least get a beer so I could pick one up. Of course, once I was there, I had to get something to eat as well.
I ordered the Big Dipper Sandwich, which is their version of a French dip. I've had it before, and it's a really good sandwich. It comes with a generous portion of meat, horseradish mayo, and a toasted bun that's sliced diagonally across the middle. It's served with au jus for dipping, and that's really what makes this sandwich stand out. The au jus is served hot and has a rich, slightly bitter flavor from the addition of a dark beer, which I believe may be Guinness Stout. The meat is incredibly tender, to the point that the sandwich starts coming apart when you dip it into the au jus. I'd go as far as to say this is probably the best French dip I've had anywhere.
Overall, it was another good visit, with good food, good beer, and the Father's Day pint glass I came in for. The Flying Saucer has a great combination of fun events and promotions, a huge selection of beers to suit just about anyone's taste, and some really good food options.— Paul

Stopped in for the Crawfish Boil
This was my most recent visit to The Flying Saucer, and this time I was there for their annual crawfish boil. The Flying Saucer is probably my favorite pub/bar, if you can call it that. I'm not really into sports and I don't like cigarette smoke, so it fits what I'm looking for. They occasionally have a game playing on TV, but most of the time the atmosphere is fairly calm, and the inside is smoke-free.
One of the things I really like about The Flying Saucer is that there is usually something going on during the week. Tuesday nights are Trivia Night, with the chance to win a free bar tab. Wednesday is Glass Night, when breweries will sometimes be there giving away branded glasses with the purchase of their beers. Monday is Pint Night, when anything on draft is on sale, and Sunday is Texas Beer Night. They also have hassle-free Wi-Fi, a dog-friendly patio, and outdoor heaters for colder weather.
The beer selection changes seasonally, and the food menu is revised periodically as well. While the beer specials, weekly events, and beer club are all part of the appeal, what really sets The Flying Saucer apart for me is that the food is actually restaurant-quality. I have no problem sitting down here and having a full dinner.
My favorite item is the Veggie Burger, also called the Hippie Burger, but I order it with a meat patty substituted for the vegetarian patty. It probably sounds a little strange, but it works incredibly well. The burger comes with pesto mayo, red onions, sliced cucumbers, tomato, and a toasted bun. Adding a meat patty to all of those ingredients creates a combination that I absolutely love, and there's really nothing else on the menu quite like it.
For sides, my favorite is the Rocket Tots, which are tater tots with cheese and peppers mixed in. My other favorite entrees are the Big Dipper, which is a French dip sandwich, and the Buffalo wings served with ranch and carrots.
The service has always been excellent, and the food has been consistently good. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know several of the managers, waitresses, and kitchen staff, and everyone has always been friendly and welcoming.
I've honestly had very little to complain about here. If you ever do have a problem, I'd recommend speaking with management or submitting a report through their website. In my experience, they'll make an effort to make things right. Customer service is one of the things The Flying Saucer does exceptionally well.
Overall, it's a great place to hang out, have a good meal, enjoy some beer, or play trivia. Between the rotating beer selection, weekly events, quality food, and consistently good service, The Flying Saucer has remained one of my favorite places to spend an evening.— Paul

Visited To Get The Elvis Glass
I stopped by The Flying Saucer specifically to pick up the Elvis glass, but of course I couldn't visit without getting something to eat as well. I ordered the buffalo wings, which come with carrot sticks and celery. Since I prefer the carrots, I asked for double carrots instead of the celery. The wings were a good size and came out hot with plenty of sauce. They're traditional buffalo-style wings with the sauce applied directly to the crispy skin rather than being coated in a thick batter.
The wings had a nice amount of crispness to the skin while still staying moist inside, and the sauce was spread well over them. The ranch dressing they serve is also one of my favorites and goes really well with the wings and vegetables. It's definitely a step above the typical ranch dressing you get at a lot of restaurants.
Service was good throughout the visit, and everything came out as expected. The Flying Saucer is already one of my favorite places to grab a beer and a meal, and this was another solid visit.— Paul
