Still One Of The Best Chicken Fried Steaks Around

Maverick Steak House, located near Floresville, TX, is about a 30-minute drive from central San Antonio, but it's well worth the trip. I've been eating here for many years, and it remains one of my favorite places to get chicken fried steak anywhere.

We visited for Father's Day dinner this time, and the food was just as good as usual. My chicken fried steak was huge, with a nice crispy batter, juicy, moist meat, and plenty of gravy. The baked potato was also really good, topped with a generous amount of bacon. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food, and no one had any complaints.

Even with a table of five, the food came out fairly quickly, and everything was fresh. We did have a few minor issues with our order, but nothing major. The biggest issue was the wait to order. We were seated in a back corner that was somewhat out of view, and it took quite a while before anyone came by to take our order.

Despite the delay in service, Maverick Steak House remains a great place for a family dinner. The prices are reasonable for the quality and generous portions you receive, and the chicken fried steak alone is worth the drive. After all these years, it's still one of my favorite spots.

One Of The Best Chicken Fried Steaks I've Had

I was first introduced to this place by some people who live in Floresville, and now I’ll make the 20-minute drive out of town just to get the chicken fried steaks here.

The restaurant has a full menu with plenty of options, but the chicken fried steaks are what keep bringing me back. The regular size is huge, but the Maverick size is just ridiculous. The steaks are juicy and flavorful, with plenty of breading and a good amount of gravy. The breading is thick enough to give you a good coating with every bite, but it’s not so thick that it feels like it’s only there to make the steak look bigger. It has a nice semi-crispy, flaky texture without being overly crunchy.

I’ve gotten pretty tired of the frozen, processed chicken fried steaks you find at a lot of places. These taste fresh and more like something you’d get from a home-cooked meal. I’ve eaten here and also ordered them to go, and they hold up surprisingly well during the drive back to San Antonio. There’s only a little separation between the breading and the meat from the steam that builds up inside the box.

The steaks are so large that they get their own box, while the sides are packed separately. Service has always been pretty good, and the wait for food usually isn’t too long. Even on busy weekend nights, it’s only a little longer.

Meals come with a salad and your choice of sides, and one thing is certain, you’re not going to leave this place hungry.
