Swedish Meatballs Here Are Great. Cafeteria Style Cafe, But Prices Have Gone Up
Prices have gone up quite a bit over the last couple of years, while the portion sizes seem to have gone in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, that has made the overall value much less appealing to me.
On this visit, I spent close to $10 and received seven meatballs, mashed potatoes, a vegetable patty, and a fountain drink. I was expecting a relatively inexpensive and filling meal based on past experiences, but the portions were smaller and further took away value for the price.
There were also a few other issues during my visit. The fountain drink machine wasn't working properly, with two of the drink choices completely unavailable. The lingonberry served with the meal also seemed different from what I remembered. I went back and looked at photos from some of my previous visits, and it appears the number of meatballs being served has decreased as well.
The Swedish meatballs flavor hasn't changed, the portion is still decent, and the mashed potatoes are good. The lingonberry jam adds a nice tartness to the meal, like cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving. The potato & broccoli cake is different, I'm not sure if I like it or not. I like it less than broccoli and cheese with rice, but its better than say a plain potato pancake or hashbrowns.
I used to enjoy stopping here for lunch when visiting IKEA and then spending some time browsing the store afterward. The meal was such a good deal, Id stop in even if I didn't need to buy anything. Unfortunately, with the higher prices and smaller portions, the restaurant isn't enough of a draw at this point. The food is decent, but unless I'm craving a particular item, I don't see myself stopping here for a "cheap" meal any longer.— Paul
