General Chicken? Or Sweet & Sour Chicken

I've been driving past this restaurant for many years and always wondered about it, but for whatever reason, I never stopped. After reading through the reviews online, I finally decided it was time to give it a try. A lot of people rave about the food and describe it as some of the best Chinese food they've had in San Antonio, so I was curious to see what I was missing.

One day while passing by, I decided to stop in and ordered the General Chicken. It was lunch, so I got the lunch special which was priced pretty low. When the food came out, it looked really good, and the portion was decent but not large. It was also extremely hot, so hot that I had to let it sit for a while before I could even eat it.

The dish itself was a little different from what I was expecting. The General Chicken came with large pieces of fresh peppers and onions mixed throughout the sauce. It didn't really look like the General Chicken I'm accustomed to seeing and actually reminded me more of the sweet and sour chicken I've had at some other restaurants.

The flavor was different as well, although it was still good. I honestly found myself wondering if I had been given the correct dish because it was so different from the General Chicken I'm used to.

The sign outside was also advertising lunch specials and plates for two, and had me considering orders to go for the family in the future.

I definitely plan on giving this place a second try. While I wouldn't say my first visit quite lived up to all the hype I'd read in the reviews, the food certainly wasn't bad, and the prices were very fair.

I'm hoping that on a future visit I'll find that one dish that really stands out, the item that makes you want to come back again and again. There was enough here to make me interested in returning and trying more of the menu.
