Trying The Fried Chicken Livers On This Visit
I've visited Blue Bonnet Cafe twice now. It's a longtime Marble Falls restaurant known for its old-fashioned atmosphere, home-style cooking, and especially its extensive selection of pies, which seems to be one of the main draws. On this visit, I decided to try the fried chicken livers with mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra, and spinach.
The meal was decent overall, but nothing really stood out. The mashed potatoes were made with red-skinned potatoes, with the skins mashed right in, and came with country gravy. The fried okra was nice and crispy and was probably one of the better items of the plate. The order of chicken livers came with about half a dozen pieces. The batter on the outside was very flaky and crisp, while the livers themselves weren't particularly thick. When they come fresh from a fryer they are usually a bit mushy, but these weren't that meaty, and were a bit more chewy. The flavor was okay, but nothing about them was particularly impressive.
On my previous visit, I had the hamburger steak, which wasn't overly impressive either. So after two visits, I haven't found an entree that I really like, or would specifically come back for. The food has been okay, but I still haven't found anything that stands out.
I also haven't tried any of the pies yet, which may be the thing I need to try next since that's such a big part of what Blue Bonnet Cafe is known for.— Paul

Decided To Stop & Try Blue Bonnet Cafe
We were out for a day trip and decided to give the Blue Bonnet Cafe a try.
It's a well-known diner with a nostalgic atmosphere that feels like you've stepped back a few decades. It was easy to see that it's popular with the locals, too. During the lunch rush, the line to be seated extended down the hallway all the way to the rear entrance.
The menu is filled with traditional homestyle favorites, including fried and baked chicken, chicken fried steak, liver and onions, hamburger steak, fries, mashed potatoes, and other familiar comfort foods.
What really seemed to get people excited, though, was the pie selection. Just inside the entrance is a huge glass refrigerator filled with dozens of different pies. The table next to us even ordered two whole pies to take home. They also have a Pie Happy Hour, which seems to be another big draw.
For my meal, I ordered the hamburger steak topped with brown gravy and grilled onions, along with mashed potatoes and buttered spinach. Unfortunately, the meal itself was fairly plain. The flavor was average, and nothing about the plate really stood out to me. I Should have probably tried something like a chicken fried steak. But I saw another table order this and it looked pretty good.
That said, I would give the Blue Bonnet Cafe another try. There's obviously something that keeps drawing the crowds, and the popularity of the pies was pretty apparent while I was there. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing or maybe I should have tried some pie.— Paul
