Tried The Teriyaki Beef Premium Plate
I was walking by and was offered a sample of the teriyaki chicken, which tasted pretty good, so I decided to try the teriyaki beef which was advertised as a premium item on the TV screen. I was hoping that choosing one of the higher-priced options would result in a better meal.
While I was paying, I was told that the Korean BBQ Ribs shown on the menu were not currently available and apparently hadn't been available for quite some time. I had actually been tempted to change my order to the ribs, so the beef teriyaki ended up being the right choice.
The food was ready in about five minutes. The items shown on the TV menu are prepared fresh when ordered instead of in advance, so I was expecting a pretty good meal. When I opened the box, however, I was a little disappointed by the portions and presentation. There was only a small amount of steamed vegetables, consisting mostly of broccoli, and almost no cabbage. The portion of meat was a decent size, but the other two compartments were filled almost entirely with steamed rice and the teriyaki beef was placed on top of the rice.
The beef had an OK flavor and was cooked reasonably well. It was a little chewy, unfortunately the flavor reminded me a lot of the beef you get in inexpensive beef and broccoli dishes from Chinese restaurants. It didn't have the flavor or quality I was expecting from a fresh-made teriyaki beef plate.
I've had several much better versions at different mall food courts around San Antonio, and this was my least favorite of the teriyaki places I've tried so far.
Overall, the price was reasonable, but I was disappointed with the meal. There were very few vegetables, most of the plate consisted of steamed rice, and the beef itself was lacking the flavor I was hoping for. I had specifically chosen one of the premium items expecting it to be a step above the regular offerings, but unfortunately, it wasn't.— Paul
