Disappointed: Lacked Flavor, & Coconut Shrimp Was Dry
It was my first time trying this place, and after reading all the good reviews I was optimistic this would become a favorite. It wasnt too far a drive from my neighborhood, maybe 15 minutes. People said it was a favorite of theirs, so it made my list of places to try.
I called in my order, drove over and picked it up. When I got back home, I opened all the boxes and took a look, since I had no idea what to expect.
The coconut shrimp had almost no sauce. Lets just call it fried shrimp. It was the most expensive plate I ordered and was the least flavorfull of the batch. It tasted like plain fried shrimp. The little bit of sauce on them had no flavor.
The sesame chicken was just OK. It at least had some flavor, but was kinda chewy, the sauce was decent but was missing something. I had one bite that had a little better flavor than others.
The general chicken was a little mushy, but it may have been sitting 10 minutes, and then the 10-15 minute ride back, so thats somewhat expected. The sauce was kind of bland, and wasnt spicy at all. The menu had a pepper next to it, so I was expecting at least some heat.
The eggrolls, another item people said were "so good" lacked flavor as well. They were just very plain. OK, before someone says I had lost my sense of taste (covid) I had not had covid at this point.
Overall for the $31 spent I feel almost any place in town could have offered food as good or better. I was genuinely confused about why people said the food here was so good. Now this visit was just after things reopened from Covid Shutdowns, and I did experience some declines in food quality at many places. Im not sure what is going on. But hopefully places will get back to normal soon.
I guess my first visit, might be my last. Unless it continues to get good reviews.. In which case I might have to give it one more try in the future.— Paul
