Keylime Pie - Tons Of Flavor, Really Good Topping & Crust.
Before visiting a friend of mine asked what keylime pie I wanted to try and picked this one up for me. I based my choice on multiple articles and reviews, and some rankings done by Florida news outlets.
This was the best keylime pie I've had yet. I wasnt sure what to expect, but it lived up to the reviews I saw online, and everything about the pie was great. The crust, the filling & the topping.
The crust on this pie was your standard graham cracker crust, but there was something different about it, it had sugar crystals or something that sweetened it, gave it a little bit of a crunch and didnt have the overpowering graham cracker flavor like many have.
The topping on this pie was a thick, whipped topping, that was almost in between an icing and a whipped cream even after it thawed back out, and it was not overly sweet either.
The filling inside had a definite keylime flavor to it, but wasnt overly tart like some keylime pies. It had a nice balance between sweet and sour/tart.
The topping also appeared to be zested with keylime as I saw little green strips.
All these things combined created a pie with a really good balance of flavors, none of them overpowering, none of them muting out the keylime flavor, while also not having a pie that was overly tart.
If your looking for an excelleny keylime pie, this is it. But its also one of the pricier pies out there.— Paul
