  • ★★★★½ Guisada Huarache Quesadilla Visited Dec 30, 2022

Smaller Portions, Higher Prices, Mostly Breakfast Items

This was my first time eating here, and I stopped in during the lunch rush. Even with the crowd, the food came out fairly quickly, taking around 15 minutes.

We ordered the de res quesadilla and the carne guisada huarache. Before ordering, we asked about the portion sizes and were told they were quite large, or at least larger than average. Unfortunately, the portions that came out were pretty average in size, especially considering the prices, which I thought were a bit high.

The quesadilla was the better of the two dishes and was actually quite good. It had plenty of cheese, and the meat was flavorful and moist. The slaw that came with it added a lot of flavor and worked really well with the rest of the quesadilla. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

The carne guisada huarache was much less impressive. The carne guisada didn't have a lot of flavor, and the meat was fairly dense and not particularly tender. The huarache itself was OK, but nothing about it really stood out. Considering it was the more expensive of the two items, I expected a little more and would describe it as pretty average. It cost about $11 for the 1 taco and canned soda, and that was with the soda only being $1.

One other thing worth mentioning is the menu. I'm not really a breakfast person, and breakfast tacos make up a largest portion of the menu, probably around 75% of the selections. That makes it a little harder for me to find things I'm interested in trying, so I'm not sure this is somewhere I'd specifically return to.

Overall, the food was good, but the most expensive item failed to impress. I felt portions were not very large for the cost, and there ultimately wasn't enough to bring me back.
