Decent Conveyor Belt Sushi, All You Can Eat, Dessert Included
This was my fourth visit, and it turned out to be one of my better experiences here. The food seemed fresher and more flavorful than on previous visits, which made for an enjoyable meal.
On this visit, I tried the Sex on the Beach Roll, Crunchy Roll, Red Sox Roll, Wonton Soup, Heat Attack Spicy Tuna-Stuffed Peppers, Green Tea Ice Cream, and Tempura-Fried Vanilla Ice Cream.
Over my visits, I've found that if you want the best selection and freshest-tasting sushi from the conveyor belt, Friday nights and weekends are usually your best bet. When the restaurant is busier, the kitchen replenishes the belt more frequently, giving you a better opportunity to sample a wider variety of rolls. Of course, ordering entire rolls directly from the menu is another option if there's something specific you want.
My favorite roll is the Red Sox Roll, made with cream cheese, cucumber, and spicy tuna, then topped with salmon. It has the best flavor combination of the rolls I've tried here. The Rocky Shrimp is another favorite. It's almost a cross between sesame chicken and honey walnut or coconut shrimp, with a light, crispy batter and a sweet sauce that makes it a great addition to the meal.
The Heat Attack peppers are stuffed with spicy tuna instead of the traditional crab, battered and deep dried, and topped with spicy mayo. They have pretty good flavor. Be warned, though: the heat level can vary considerably from one serving to the next, so you never quite know how spicy they'll be.
The dessert selection is another reason I keep coming back. The green tea ice cream is a nice option, and the tempura-fried vanilla ice cream can be really good when the frying oil is fresh. I've had an order in the past that tasted off, though, so consistency can be an issue. I've also noticed some quality issues with fried items on occasion, including a banana spring roll with black, burnt residue on the wrapper, as shown in my photo.
Service has generally been pretty good. There are times when it takes a while for someone to return to the table, but it's less of an inconvenience when you have sushi coming around on the conveyor belt. The delays are more noticeable when you want to order items that aren't available on the belt.
For the price, quality, and variety, this remains one of my favorite all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants. The selection is extensive, and having desserts included in the all-you-can-eat price is a definite plus. While there can be occasional inconsistencies, my latest visit was a good reminder of why I've returned four times.— Paul
