First Time Ordering The Sopapillas Here

I wasnt sure what to expect. Sopapillas from one place to the next tend to result in all sorts of items being brought out. Some thin, crisp, thick like bread, some square, triangle, round. I never know what Im going to get, but Im always hoping for nice big fluffy ones, that have a doughy layer and a crisp outer skin.

The plate that came out here was a plate of medium to smaller sized triangles. They were inflated, but were a bit overcooked and almost too crispy. They were on the verge of being wontons, had they been cooked a few more seconds. The flavor was ok, but not great. Definitely not in my top favorites. So the hunt still continues.

Im looking for a place that makes them similar to how Panchos Buffet used to serve them. I've come close a few times, but no one that beats those old favorites.

  • ★★★★☆ Stuffed Shrimp Poblano Pepper Visited Mar 10, 2021

Tried The New Shrimp Stuffed Poblano Pepper

I decided to try the new shrimp-stuffed poblanos after seeing a picture on the menu that looked pretty good. Unfortunately, the experience got off to a disappointing start. After waiting about 10 minutes, my waiter came back and told me the kitchen said they couldn't make the dish. However, after I changed my order, a plate eventually came out with a stuffed poblano pepper on it, so apparently they were able to make it after all.

The biggest disappointment was the portion size. For $12, I received just one stuffed poblano. The shrimp inside was chopped into small pieces, whereas the menu picture showed what looked like several whole, adobo-seasoned grilled shrimp. Given the price, I was expecting at least two peppers, so the portion here was pretty small, the single pepper wasn't even a decent size.

I substituted the rice and beans for grilled vegetables, which were OK, but they ended up making up more than half of the meal. The pepper came with lettuce, tomato, and avocado on the side, but there wasn't much going on in terms of flavor beyond the poblano and cheese.

Unfortunately, this new menu item didn't live up to my expectations at all. Between the initial confusion with the kitchen, the small portion, and the fairly average flavor, it was a disappointing entree.
