My Favorite Mongolian BBQ Place
HuHot is probably my favorite Mongolian BBQ restaurant. What really sets HuHot apart from many of the other Mongolian BBQ places I've been to is the huge selection of ingredients and sauces, along with the fact that it's all-you-can-eat. Many other Mongolian BBQ restaurants are one-trip-only, so being able to go back for another bowl is a big advantage.
The sauce bar has a lot of ingredients that I don't normally see at other Mongolian BBQ restaurants, including sesame oil, garlic broth, cooking sherry, and hot chili oil. There are at least three types of noodles to choose from, including Pad Thai and ramen, along with more than 20 different vegetables. You can choose from bean sprouts, sliced onions, zucchini, broccoli, cilantro, mushrooms, green onions, and plenty of others. The meat selection includes crab, shrimp, mussels, beef, pork, and chicken. With all of the different sauces, seasonings, noodles, vegetables, and meats available, there are almost endless combinations you can create.
The cooks here are also excellent and will accommodate special requests. You can ask for things like crispy noodles or red pepper flakes to be cooked directly on the grill rather than added afterward, or even have your rice fried with the rest of your food. They will also clean and prepare the grill for customers with seafood or peanut allergies, which is a nice extra level of service.
The Asian salad that comes with dinner is another favorite of mine. It's a spring salad topped with crushed ramen noodles, a sweet Asian vinaigrette, and a few mandarin orange wedges. I've only found one other place that comes close to replicating it. It's almost like dessert in salad form.
The restaurant also has a full bar and a dessert menu with some good options, including fried cheesecake wontons. One thing they don't seem to advertise very much is their loyalty club, where you can earn points toward free meals, birthday meals, and other specials. If you like HuHot, it's definitely worth signing up.
If you like Mongolian BBQ, I'd highly recommend giving HuHot a try. The huge selection, all-you-can-eat format, variety of sauces and ingredients, and ability to customize your meal make it a place I keep coming back to.— Paul
