Declining Selection and Rising Prices Left Me A Bit Disappointed

I was a little disappointed with my most recent visit. I stopped in for lunch, and the selection was much more limited than I'm used to seeing here. The buffet items weren't being replenished as frequently, either. One item I wanted had been empty for about 20 minutes, and I ended up leaving before it was refilled.

They also no longer had the hot pasta salad I used to enjoy. I rarely eat the baked potatoes here, but I ended up having two of them on this visit simply because there weren't many other items available that appealed to me.

The other issue is the price. Costs have increased enough that I'm no longer sure the lunch buffet is a particularly good deal compared to other places. It used to be marginally better than Cici's for just a dollar or so more, making it worth paying a little extra for the additional variety.

But now the price is getting close to what I'd pay for a Chinese buffet or a decent meal at a sit-down restaurant. When you combine the higher cost with the reduced selection and slower replenishment of food, the value just isn't there like it used to be.

Unfortunately, this experience has made me less enthusiastic about returning. I'll probably be eating here less often unless the selection, food availability, and overall value improve.

An Affordable Pizza Buffet with More Than Just Pizza

Mr. Gatti's is a decent pizza buffet, and I prefer it over many other pizza buffets because it offers more than just pizza. Along with the usual pizza selections, the buffet includes spaghetti, salads, a hot pasta dish, baked potatoes, dessert pizzas, cinnamon sticks, and a few other items. One of its biggest selling points is the price, which comes in at less than $8, making it an extremely affordable meal.

My favorite items are the cinnamon sticks and the hot pasta. The pizza itself is pretty good, with a thin crust, but not the best pizza you'll ever have. If there's a particular type of pizza you'd like that isn't currently on the buffet, you can usually request it, and they'll make it for you. The standard pizza varieties are generally available all the time.

Timing your visit makes a difference, though. I'd recommend arriving before 8 p.m., as the buffet tends to be replenished less frequently later in the evening. The selection can dwindle quickly after that, especially on weeknights. The pasta is excellent, and the potato soup can be particularly good during the winter. The cinnamon sticks are my favorite way to finish the meal, and they're a big part of what makes this buffet worth visiting.

The Pat Booker location also has a nice arcade and game room toward the back, along with several dining rooms that make it a comfortable place to eat with the family. One of my favorite areas is the cartoon room. Even as an adult, I'll sometimes eat there while they screen a newer animated movie or an old classic from my childhood.

I've even brought my laptop and hotspot and worked from a table while meeting with a business associate over a meal. The staff didn't seem to have any issue with it, which was a nice bonus.

Overall, I'd recommend Mr. Gatti's to families with children and anyone looking for an inexpensive meal with a decent variety of options. The pizza may not be exceptional, but the additional buffet items, entertainment, and low price make it a good value. When you consider that an order of cinnamon sticks at some other pizza restaurants can cost nearly as much as the entire buffet here, it's hard to argue with the value!
