Certain Items Are Fantastic. Best Beef Fried Rice! Servings Are Huge (Enough For 2)
For years, I was never particularly impressed with the dishes I ordered here. But the menu was full of things I’d never tried. I kept coming back mostly because it’s close to my neighborhood, and the portions are huge. You cant beat the prices on food that easily makes 2 meals, even if the food is just average or so-so. But then one day I tried the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, and it completely changed my opinion of this place.
The Shrimp in Garlic Sauce is absolutely amazing. They give you a generous amount of shrimp along with a great mix of vegetables, including crunchy bell peppers, onions, bamboo shoots, baby corn, and more. The sauce has a great combination of sweet and spicy flavors, along with what I believe are black ear mushrooms. It’s one of the best dishes I’ve had here.
The rice that comes with the entrees isn't anything special, but fortunately, their fried rice is excellent, Im not talking about the yellow fried rice that you can get on your meal. You have to order actual fried rice, because the fried rice items here are also great. My favorite is the Teriyaki Beef Fried Rice, which has a generous amount of marinated beef along with green onions and bean sprouts. The first time I ordered it, I didn't see beef fried rice listed on the menu. I saw shrimp, pork, and other options. So It got me wonderinf if they could make it with beef. I'm glad I did, and later saw it was an item on the menu.
Another surprise came a few trips later when I wondered what the teriyaki beef was like by itself on the entree. When I got home and opened the box what was inside was a huge portion of nothing but meat in sauce. Check the photos to see it. It doesnt really have a teriyaki flavor, neither does the rice, but the flavor is good.
Not everything here is a home run. The General Chicken is decent, but I've occasionally gotten it with a burnt flavor, almost like the sauce was overcooked in the wok. The Sesame Chicken can have the same issue and the Beef and Mushroom is another dish I used to order occasionally, although it's one of the saltier options.
The other surprise here is just how much food you get. Most entrees are around $10, with the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce around $12, but the portions are enormous. Most plates are easily one huge meal or two normal-sized meals. Order the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce and Teriyaki Beef Fried Rice together, and you could easily have 2–3 meals or more.
They pack these boxes so full that the lids barely close. The saucier dishes can even spill into the bag, so make sure you keep the bag sitting flat on the ride home unless you want to clean up a mess!
After discovering the dishes I really love, I find myself coming here much more often. The combination of huge portions, low prices, and a few dishes that are genuinely some of the best I've had makes this a place I’m happy to keep coming back to.— Paul
