General Chicken & Beef & Garlic Were Average, Portions Were Large

It had been several years since my last visit, and I honestly didn't remember much about my previous experience. I stopped in late one evening for a last-minute meal and asked if the combos were available for dinner as well as lunch and they said yes. I decided to order a combo so I could try more than one dish. I went with the General Tso's chicken and beef with garlic sauce. I noticed the lunch and dinner plates were also available in small and large. I'm not sure what you get on the combo, but I had a huge plate of food.

The food took a little while to arrive, and when it did, everything came out together, including my soup and drink. Nothing was brought out separately while I waited.

The first thing I noticed was the portion size. The servings were enormous, and I knew immediately that I would need a to-go box. When the waitress asked if there was anything else she could get me, I replied, "a to-go box." She seemed a little confused at first, but I explained that it wasn't because the food had taken too long. There was simply no way I was going to finish that much food!

Unfortunately, both dishes were decent, but neither was particularly impressive.

The General Tso's chicken had tender meat, but the pieces were unusually large and dense. The batter was soggy rather than crisp, and the sauce had a noticeably vinegary flavor. Considering how frequently this dish was mentioned in other reviews, I expected better.

The beef with garlic sauce was about the same. It also had an vinegary, almost sour flavor that made the dish less enjoyable. Im not sure why these items had this flavor. I've had general chicken sauce before that was the vinegary style, but never beef & garlic.

I noticed other tables receiving similarly large portions, regardless of what they ordered. For the price, the servings are generous enough to split between two or even three people, making the restaurant a decent value if you're primarily concerned about quantity. However, finding dishes that really deliver on flavor may require some experimentation with the menu.

Overall, this wasn't a great dining experience, maybe a bit below average due to everything coming out at once, and the food not being all that great. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food, the service was fine, and the menu offered an enormous selection of options. I just wasn't particularly impressed, but I wasn't turned off enough to rule out coming back to try something else.

With such an extensive menu, I suspect there are some dishes worth coming back for.
