One Of The Best Steakhouses I've Been To. Great Steaks & Unlimited Sides
Dining here is a unique experience. The restaurant is located has been used as a movie set in the past. The main building has the look and feel of an old west ranch house on a cattlefarm. Its a bit off the highway but definitely worth the trip.
The menu offers a variety of steaks and other items, but the large steaks are really the featurd items here. Cattlemans offers a 2lb and 1 1/2 lb porterhouse steak, called the Cowboy and Cowgirl. The sirloin comes in a 10 and 14 ounce option, and even the ground steak patty is a 10oz patty.
All meals come with unlimited coleslaw (which has pineapple in it), ranch style beans and bread and butter. The sides are usually brought out before your meal, so you can start snacking right away. These are in addition to the items that come with your plate such as baked potatoes and corn on the cob.
On my 2 visits over the years, the service has been good, the steaks have been amazing, always cooked perfectly, and full of flavor. I've watched travel videos of this restaurant, where they claim
the cooks are trained for around 2 years, with some grill masters having been there 10-15 years.
The steaks come out looking great, with a nice finish on the outside reguardless of the cook
temp you order on the inside. The cooks here know where to place the steaks to get just the right
finish on the outside without overcooking the insides.
The coleslaw is memorable, its labeled as a pineapple coleslaw. It has small pieces of pineapple in it, its a creamly coleslaw, and has a sweet flavor to it, which contrasts the flavors of the steaks and ranch style beans.
How fresh and flavorful are the steaks? For a long time I heard stories the meat was butchered on site, that the cattle were raised on the property, the meat was never frozen, and what was on your plate was alive a day earlier. But I've learned all these stories are just myth. The owner has always purchased his meat from local markets. But it just lends to how good the steaks here taste.
This is one of those places you try to schedule your travel by, so that your passing at lunch or dinner. Its hard to make a trip past this place without stopping.— Paul
