Old Fashioned Southern Diner, But Didnt Deliver The Flavor
Stopped here by complete randomness. I was hoping to get some real homestyle southern food. Im from the south, Texas in fact, but I wanted to try southern food from this region. The restaurant boasted its long history, so I had high hopes this place was serving some classic recipes.
I ordered the chicken fried steak, mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. The chicken fried steak was less than impressive. I think It may have been a frozen patty. Ive had some from Walmart with the same flavor. The mac n cheese wasnt baked or anything fancy, it was ok, but kind of plain as well. It didnt seem instant, but the cheese was a bit pasty.
I did see a few people ordering the fried chicken, and it was mentioned as a specialty. Not sure if we just ordered items that were mediocre here or what, but the flavor, quality and price, disappointed.
My dining partner had a rack of ribs, which were very tender, but also lacking flavor. They seemed baked and not BBQ'd. While the meat fell off the bone, the BBQ sauce was the main source of the flavor.
Not sure what to think when I visit a place as old as this, and get a mediocre meal.— Paul
