One Of My Favorite Vietnamese Noodle Bowls.
I’ve been dining at Pho Hai An since around 2014, and it quickly became one of my absolute favorite spots for Vietnamese food in San Antonio. It had been a little while since my last visit, but I'm happy to report it’s just as good as I remembered.
They are a bit of a hidden gem, tucked away on Walzem Road on the backside of a small shopping center facing the large Asia Supermarket.
Grilled Pork & Spring Roll (Bún Thịt Nướng Chả Giò)
The food here is incredibly consistent. The vermicelli noodles always have the perfect texture, and the dish comes with a small, separate bowl of sauce, that has a unique blend of flavors. Pouring that over the noodles, meat, and fresh vegetables creates an amazing combination of textures and flavors. The pork itself is always grilled to perfection, boasting a unique seasoning and flavor I've only found a few places.
The spring roll that comes with the bowl is always spectacular—easily some of my favorites. The wrappers on these are fried to a beautiful, golden color, offering a satisfyingly flaky and crisp bite. The interior is perfectly packed with a filling of rice noodles, carrots, and savory pork, that is always moist and packed with flavor.
Portions, Pricing, & Menu
Portion sizes are decent—satisfying without being overwhelming. Prices are about average for this type of food, with most bowls landing in the very reasonable $8–$11 range. The exception to this is a few seafood items, which usually are made with shrimp.
If you want to branch out, their expansive menu also features a wide variety of other traditional Vietnamese staples, including Banh Mi and Pho.
If you haven't been yet, this tucked-away spot is well worth seeking out! Its a great little spot to grab lunch.— Paul
