Tried The Fajita Plate. The Fajitas Were Good Everything Else On The Plate Was Average.
I saw this new location on 1604 and I-10 on the east side, and wondered what it was. I had never seen a Las Palapas Express before, so I stopped in to check it out.
The location was much like other Las Palapas, I did see a few new items on the menu, not sure if its just because its been a while since I ate at any of the locations, or because it was an "express" location.
But I wanted to try something new, and had never ordered fajitas at a Las Palapas before.
I placed my order, the beef fajita plate, and got a paper boat full of chips to eat while waiting. The chips and salsa were pretty good.
When the fajitas arrived the portion was a little smaller than expected for the price. The plate cost $14.50, came with 2 tortillas and a portion of meat that was enough for 2-3 tacos. I guess if you do the math a normal fajita taco is about $4.50, so with rice and beans, this was comparable. The quality of the meat would be the deciding factor if it was worth the price.
The meat had good flavor, was tender, could have had a little more charring on it, but overall wasn't bad. It wasn't a cheap cut, which was what I was hoping to avoid. Many fast food places have been passing off really cheap, soggy meat as fajitas recently. Ive been repeatedly disappointed by the quality of meat at many places since 2020.
It was nice that this was at least a decent texture, the meat had a nice grain and pattern to it, and it was prepared properly.
The rice and beans were a bit underwhelming however, which brought the plate as a whole down a little bit, I found them to be a little bland.
Overall it wasn't a bad meal. But Id probably opt to just buy fajita tacos next time.— Paul
