Lunch Buffet offered Decent Variety, But Less Than Average Flavor
Someone had mentioned that this restaurant had a lunch buffet, so one day while working in the area I decided to stop here for lunch.
The lunch buffet is a series of tables that are positioned in the bar area of the restaurant. They have roll top warmers, much like what is found at hotel breakfast bars. Each container has a few items inside, that are on a rotating menu that changes depending on the day of the week.
The day I was there, one container had taco meats, a pulled seasoned chicken, and ground picadillo type beef. The next container had cheese enchiladas inside. The next one chicken fajita, and the last one rice and beans. Then a small area with tostadas, taco shells, chopped lettuce, onion, tomato, and cheese was available.
I was seated off to the side in a dining only area, and waiter service was decent, but not great. It seemed like a pretty slow day for the restaurant. My drink went empty for a bit at one point.
I found at the end of my meal, that I had eaten the equivalent of the Mexican Plate (2 cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, salad, and a taco. +1 additional enchilada & taco. The Mexican plate is $14, my buffet was $16. So not really much of a savings for me.
The enchiladas were decent, but not a top 10 item. The sauce/gravy on them was the flour based orange type gravy, meatless and while it was decent, it just seemed a bit plain. The rice and beans were average, the rice was made with peas in it, and the taco was again just average, it had OK flavor, but just wasnt anything overly special.
Overall the food was average, but nothing to bring me back, especially since this place is 20 minutes from my house. The buffet wasnt a savings, compared to regular menu, and service was passable but not great.
I will say the salsa served with the chips was decent, it was a smokey roasted pepper type salsa, which I've had served to me at a few places, but a little less common.
Unless someone tells me theres a menu item that is amazing, I dont see myself returning, not because the foods bad, but because its average quality, priced at a point where I can eat at nearly any Mexican restaurant in town.
