  Enchilada Guisadas, The Best Of 2 Items. Enchiladas Topped With Carne Guisada.

  This was my first time visiting Tommy's, despite having heard about it many a time from people, specifically for barbacoa and big red.
  
  I visited the restaurant with a few friends, and nearly everyone ordered something different. I decided to go with a cheese enchilada plate, out of pure curiosity.
  
  We went on a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was super busy, and it took a bit to get waited on, and also a bit for the food to arrive, but when it did it was good.
  
  The chips and salsa here were pretty good, the salsa required some additional salt, it had a little heat to it, but the flavor overall was good, a little chunky, with plenty garlic.
  
  My enchilada plate was a good portion size, the enchiladas were baked nicely, the cheese not quite liquified, and not browned on top of the sauce, but came close. I ordered the enchiladas with the carne guisada gravy on them (its a specific menu item - Enchiladas Guisadas) and you get 2 instead of 3 if you order the regular cheese enchiladas.
  
  The flavor was good, everything on the plate had good flavor, and as far as enchiladas go, these would make my top 5 for San Antonio. Not sure exactly where in the rank, but they were up there with Blanco Cafe, and Garcias. The carne guisada sauce had lots of chile powder in it, it wasnt regular carne guisada poured over enchiladas, and I asked for onions on it, and it was loaded with them.
  
  Overall the food was excellent, service was decent despite the crowd, portion sizes were good, and prices were fair in comparison with other places around town. I wouldn't call it cheap Mexican food, but its not a fancy or expensive place either with most plates in the $9-13 range.
  
  I would definitely return to eat there again.
