Mediocre Thai Food That Was A Bit Pricey
I'd been curious about this place for a very long time. I believe once there was remodeling or something, and another time they were closed that day. This week was finally the week.
I arrived for a semi-late dinner, it was about 8pm. I was concerned at first because the parking lot was half torn up, but they were open and there were a few tables dining inside.
**Initial Service**
I was immediately seated and my drink order taken. I browsed the menu, but generally on my first visit to any Thai restaurant I try the beef pad thai. It was only about 4 minutes and my drink was at the table and my order was in. My food came out pretty quick. Others had ordered before me, but mine came out first. I'd estimate maybe 6 minutes..
**The Pad Thai**
The first thing I noticed was the smell of my plate. It smelled really sweet, and at first I identified the smell as teriyaki. I noticed there was quite a bit of sauce under the noodles. A small pile of bean sprouts and peanuts on the side. I mixed the food and took my first bite. The noodles were cooked nicely, and the flavor overall was decent, but the sauce used was overly sweet, and the amount used was a bit too much. I like sweet pad thai, but this was on the upper limits, so the point it was a bit overwhelming. The spice level was also a bit off, for a medium, it seemed closer to mild. There was some spice to the food, but barely any visible spice on the noodles. I would expect a medium to be 5-7 on a 1-10 scale.. this was about a 3.
**Portions**
The portion of meat used on the dish was decent, not low or overly generous. The meat had good flavor and was tender, but I later came to find out I didnt notice there was a $2 upcharge for beef on the menu. The total portion of food served was good, I was full at the end of the meal, and had arrived on an empty stomach.
The soda was served in a can for $2.75, obviously no refills, which is always nice at a Thai restaurant because spice levels are inconsistent.
**Overall Impression**
Overall the meal was decent. Total for beef pad thai and a canned coke was about $18 which isnt bad but on par with other places in the area. Portions were good, but flavor was a bit sweet, and most people say I like sweet food, so this was probably very sweet to most people. Service could have been improved, other tables were checked on while mine was ignored, when I noticed this and looked at the waitress she came to the table. I would consider visiting again, but maybe trying something else on the menu, I almost ordered the beef salad, maybe I'll go back and try that. Overall I would consider it again, it wasn't bad, but not my favorite in the area.
