  Great Atmosphere & Concept but Unimpressed by The Pizza I Received.

  **Darkside Brick Oven Pizza: A Nostalgic Experience
  
  I recently visited Darkside Brick Oven Pizza for a special event. The restaurant is a haven for 1980s movie fans, with an impressive collection of replica props and mannequins from iconic films. From a Delorean with Doc Brown and Marty McFly to an embroidered Karate Kid robe featuring Mr. Miyagi’s bonsai tree logo, the décor alone is worth the trip. However, while the restaurant is listed as being in Boerne, it’s actually located a bit east of town, making it feel somewhat removed from the main area.
  
  **The Food
  I ordered a 12" Veggie Pizza with added Canadian Bacon, as there wasn’t a supreme pizza option on the menu. Single slices weren’t available, which might make this less ideal for solo diners as far as pizza goes, and resulted in my having half my pizza go home with me.
  
  The pizza itself was decent but underwhelming for its $24 price tag. The thin crust was enjoyable, still soft but not soggy, and not overly crisp. One of the downfalls were the toppings which felt a bit sparse. While the veggies had good flavor, the overall flavor lacked the uniqueness or boldness I was hoping for. For the price, I expected something more memorable as the menu boasted "in house made dough", cooked in a brick oven "with a hint of Texas oak fire."
  
  From observing other diners, salads ($8) and sandwiches ($12-$14) seemed popular and potentially a better value, especially for individuals. The Tomato & Basil Bruschetta, priced at $12, appeared to be a small serving with just four pieces, which might leave some diners feeling short-changed, while sandwiches looked much more filling.
  
  **The Service
  It’s important to note that this visit took place during a crowded event with around 200 attendees, which clearly put a strain on the kitchen. I’m factoring this into my assessment of the service.
  
  I ordered a pizza and soft drink, and while the drink arrived in about seven minutes, it was flat. After I flagged down the waitress, she promptly replaced it with a bottled soda, which was appreciated. I wasn’t charged extra, and while I didn’t require a refill, I can’t comment on how refills might be handled. She also acknowledged that I wasnt alone on this issue.
  
  The pizza, however, took an hour and 27 minutes to arrive. I didn’t wait at my table the entire time; instead, I walked around the event, checking back occasionally. At one point, seeing that my table had been cleared, adding to the frustration.
  
  When the food finally arrived, the order was accurate, and the waitress remained friendly and attentive despite the chaotic environment.
  
  **The Atmosphere
  The standout feature of Darkside Brick Oven Pizza is undeniably its ambiance. This is a must-visit spot for anyone nostalgic for 1980s pop culture. It’s an ideal setting for a fun date night or a casual outing with friends, especially for those who grew up in the ‘70s or ‘80s.
  
  **Final Thoughts
  While the restaurant’s theme and atmosphere are outstanding, the food left me less than impressed. The pizza was bit above average, while it appeared many menu items felt overpriced for what was delivered, in either portion size or flavor.
  
  That said, I’d consider returning with friends to split costs and sample a wider variety of dishes. This would give me a better sense of the menu’s strengths. As it stands, Darkside Brick Oven Pizza is a great spot for 1980s nostalgia, but the pizza didn’t quite live up to expectations.
