Great Chicken Sandwich Combo at a Good Price. Especially at the Airport.
I rarely try places dedicated to chicken, as Im just not a fan of it.
But while in the Tampa, FL airport, I was looking for something quick to eat. There was a place called PDQ, I looked at the menu saw it was chicken, but there was no line, and the price was right. For being in an airport, every combo on the menu was under $10.
Airports are notorius for smaller portions and higher prices, so when I saw a chicken sandwich, waffle fries and a drink for $9, I figured why not?
The menu was pretty simple, Spicy, Regular, Honey Butter or Grilled on a sandwich, chicken strips, and waffle fries. Breakfast has chicken on a biscuit (same flavor options), tots, or bacon egg and cheese biscuit. Thats the whole menu, aside from drinks, cookies, and a salad option.
The Spicy chicken sandwich combo was what I decided on. I swiped my card, received my drink, took a few steps away from the counter, snapped a photo of the menu. Someone was waving a bag at me. I thought to myself no freaking way. I walked up and took the bag, walked over to a table and unpackaged it. A full size chicken patty, kind of orangey tinted breaded, with pickles and sauce on a bun. A bag full size portion of waffle fries, and some dipping sauce.
Time from ordering to recieving the food.. I dont even know.. somewhere in the range of less than a minute including paying. I really assumed PDQ stood for Pretty D#mn Quick at this point, but saw a sign saying it stood for "People Dedicated to Quality", but Im pretty sure this was done on purpose.
I found out this is a well known chain, with locations scattered all over Florida. It was voted best chicken sandwich in Tampa Bay Area 2018-2022 according to the sign at the airport.
See the attached photo, under $10 in an Airport, in 2024 post inflation, Im still in disbelief.
So how was the sandwich? Great! it was better than any chicken sandwich I've got from Chick Fil-a, McDonalds, or Popeyes. It was crispy, it had a decent amount of spice to it, the bun was fresh and soft, it wasn't dry, and it had good flavor. The fries were good as well, they went really well with the sandwich, and passing thru the airport again, I would not hesitate to order it again.
