  • ★★★★★ Teriyaki Beef Steamed Veggies Teriyaki Shrimp Visited Aug 28, 2024

Some of the Best Teriyaki Beef and Steamed Veggies. From a Food Court Restaurant.

I've been dining at this place for quite a while now. It's part of a well-known national chain, and despite having several dedicated teriyaki spots in San Antonio, I still find myself coming back here for the beef teriyaki. While it may not be the absolute best you can find in town, it’s surprisingly good for a food court chain.

On my latest visit, I ordered a combo plate with half beef, half shrimp, and extra veggies, but I have to admit it didn’t quite live up to my usual expectations. First off, the portion sizes felt noticeably smaller than in the past. The container seemed shallower, which gives the illusion of a full box, but in reality holds less food. Has anyone else noticed this change, or is it just me?

The flavor was also slightly off. Usually, the teriyaki sauce here has a rich, grilled flavor with a bit of caramelized sweetness, but this time it was missing some of that depth. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what was different, maybe the sauce didn’t caramelize the way it typically does, whatever it was it tasted less flavorfull.

One thing I do appreciate about this spot is that, despite any recent hiccups in flavor or portion size, the overall value remains decent. At around $10, the beef and shrimp combo is still a fair deal, especially given today’s restaurant prices. Even with the smaller portion, you still get a decent sized meal, making it a solid choice if you’re in the mood for teriyaki at a table or to go.

As for the service, I have to give them credit. This place is fast and efficient, even when the line is long. On this visit, there were quite a few people waiting, yet I still got my order in under 15 minutes. The staff here really keeps things moving. Quick service is especially nice if you're in a rush, and they make sure you’re in and out with minimal wait time. You can even order ahead online. This location is also next to a door that takes you out to the parking lot, which makes stopping in, or picking up pretty quick despite being in the mall. Just find the food court entrace on the back side of the mall.

Overall, while my recent visit left me a bit disappointed compared to past experiences, I’m hopeful it was just a one-time dip in quality. I’m curious if others have had a similar experience recently or if I just caught them on an off day.
