Best Birria I've Had, Consume is Amazing.
**Probably the Best Birria in San Antonio**
I stumbled upon this spot by accident while visiting a nearby business. My friend was outside smoking when the owner's son approached him and offered a taco sample. On our way out, we picked up the sample, and I decided to give their birria a try. It turned out to be an amazing find.
**Amazing Birria Tacos**
At first, I thought the $6.50-$7 price tag per taco (depending on whether you choose beef or goat) was a bit high. But when the box arrived, I realized it was worth it. This was a large taco—bigger than the 3-4 tacos you'd typically get elsewhere—and packed with a generous amount of meat. Even without a cup of consommé, the taco was incredibly juicy, with the box required to catch all the drippings.
This taco had the best flavor of any birria I've tried so far. The meat was incredibly tender, the freshly-made corn tortillas were full of flavor, and the cheese was perfectly melted. It came with onions and cilantro on the side, as commonly served most places.
**A Menu Full of Regional Flavors**
In addition to birria tacos, the truck offers family-sized orders of birria, birria quesadillas, fajita burritos, and a variety of burgers with fries. The burger menu includes options like a Hawaiian burger, a ground goat burger with hummus, a mushroom Swiss, and more. One unique offering I hadn’t seen before was birria served in “crunchy shells.”
When I asked about the crunchy shells, I imagined store-bought tortilla shells or deep-fried corn tortillas. But he explained that he crisps up the homemade corn tortillas on the flat grill—an option he gives diners when ordering the birria tacos.
**One For the Road**
As an added bonus, I got a pint of his birria broth, or "consommé," which he sells in 3 sizes. I later used to make a bowl of ramen at home. Simply adding it to a microwave Tapatillo bowl I got at Walmart, and it was absolutely delicious. I didnt even add the seasoning packed as his consommé was so rich, it needed no help.
**The Owner**
The owner is super friendly, and the kind of person you want to see succeed. He is originally from Mexico City but has been in the U.S. for 20 years. His food truck specializes in Mexican dishes, with fresh made corn tortillas he cooks throughout the day. He had made mine just a few minutes before I ordered. While speaking with him he mentioned he was planning to serve "Rostro Asado De Cordero" or (roasted goat) over the weekend, one of the items that makes limited appearances on his menu.
**Get The Word Out**
The birria was so incredible that I bumped him up on my list of reviews to make sure people hear about this place. I've tried several local spots specializing in birria, but this one stands out, putting most of the competition to shame. Id hate to see this business fail, and San Antonio's restaurant scene has recently seen a lot of closures.
His truck is open during the day on weekdays and in the evenings on weekends. If you're a fan of birria or just great food, this is a must-try.
