Roadside Boiled Peanuts - Surprise Was 5 Flavors. Sampled Them All!
I stumbled upon this roadside stand purely by accident. After taking a wrong turn, I continued down Fruitville Road until it dead-ended. A friend had just asked if I’d seen any roadside boiled peanut stands, and I had replied that I hadn’t, since most of my time had been spent in the city. Less than five minutes later, I spotted this stand on the side of the road. Curious, I pulled over to see what they had.
**Uniquely Flavored Peanuts
There were several pots on burners and a giant boiler. Inside the pots were a variety of flavors: Cajun, Pickle, Salt & Vinegar, Regular, Lemon Pepper, and Cajun Pickle. I mentioned to the lady running the stand that boiled peanuts aren’t very common in Texas, and that I’d only tried them once or twice, decades ago. She kindly offered me samples of a few flavors, so I gave it a shot, trying the Cajun, Pickle, and Salt & Vinegar.
What really surprised me was that they use all-natural ingredients to flavor the peanuts. When the pickle pot was opened and stirred, there were probably 100 slices of pickle floating in it. The lemon pepper pot had visible slices of lemon, and the vinegar pot released a distinct, unmistakable aroma when uncovered.
The peanuts absorbed these strong flavors, making each one a unique experience for me—especially since the last time I encountered a boiled peanut stand was in North Carolina about three years ago and they only offered plain peanuts.
**Taking Peanuts To Go**
As I was standing there locals on their way home from work pulled up, the lady already knew what they wanted, walked out made a drive thru transaction and the truck pulled away down the road munching on peanuts.
I ended up buying a quart size bag of them for my friend, freezing them, and bringing them back to Texas. The operators of the stand explained to me that the peanuts could be kept frozen for up to a year and that reheating them was as simple as placing them in a pot with some water and bringing them to a boil again.
I was also informed that they set up at this location for several months of the year before heading up to Illinois for the Winter season.
**Overall Impression:
**The different flavors were truly unique, with strong, bold tastes and a good variety to choose from. If your a boiled peanut aficionado, then this might be a new favorite. My friend who asked for the peanuts said he had never seen flavored peanuts like this before either. So if you like boiled peanuts hunt down these people. Ive also included their Facebook page below.
