Pretty Good Gorditas and Decent Mexican Plates

I visited this restaurant after receiving a recommendation to try their gorditas. I stopped in this week while in the area to see how the gorditas measured up.

Upon arrival, I noticed a sign featuring daily specials, which included an entrée and tea for about $2 less than the regular price—a decent deal, especially with the tea included.

    My Order
I ordered the combo plate, which included two cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, and a crispy taco (with an option to upgrade to a puffy taco for an additional $0.50). Since the gorditas came highly recommended, I added one to my order as well.

The food arrived quickly, and I was surprised to see that the puffy taco and gordita filled a full-size plate. Both were larger than average, about the size of a large tortilla.

    Enchiladas
The enchiladas, along with the rice and beans, were decent. The highlights were definitely the meat gravy and the Spanish rice on the enchilada plate. Overall I’d rate the enchiladas a 7/10, with the gravy deserving a solid 9/10.

    Gordita
Next, I tried the gordita. Surprisingly, the shell was similar to that of a puffy taco—crispy, decently thick and flavorful. The filling was essentially picadillo, and was both a generous portion and some of the best I’ve had. Two of these gorditas would likely be more than enough for the average person.

    Puffy Taco
The puffy taco however, while crispy and packed with a decent portion of meat, didn’t quite measure up to the gordita. The shell was a bit too crispy for my taste, though others might enjoy it.

    Overall Impression
Service was decent; I was checked on twice during my meal, and all the food arrived piping hot. The flavors were good, with some dishes being average and others above average. The picadillo filling, in particular, stood out as the highlight of the meal. I’d consider returning to try the picadillo plate or dinner tacos.
