Fast Food - Decent Items, Taco Bell Alternative. Try A Taco Burger (Chili Burger)

If you've never had Taco Casa, its probably because you live in a large city (unless your in Dallas), as most Taco Casa locations are in small to medium sized towns and I tend to only eat at them when traveling. There are locations in Kerrville, Hutto, Killeen, Waco, College Station, Lufkin, Abilene ect..

Taco Casa, is for lack of any better description, is a competitor to Taco Bell, and similar to Taco Mayo if your from Oklahoma. This isnt authentic Mexican food, you wont find gorditas or even soft tacos on the menu. What you will find is, plain crispy tacos, supreme tacos, taco salad, the chilada, nachos, frijole cups, tostadas, a basic burrito, and the chili burger which I call a taco burger (like Taco Mayo's) mentioned above.

Theres a few things that set Taco Casa apart however. On this visit I got a chili burger and crispy taco. My taco this visit was very generous, probably 2-3 times what you would get at Taco Bell. It was filled with plenty of meat, and topped with a large pile of cheese. As far as portion for your money Taco Casa wins.

My chili burger, instantly reminded me of the show "Rosanne" and the "loose meat sandwich". This is kinda like a sloppy joe, but its taco meat between a hamburger bun, topped with lettuce, and shredded cheese for an upcharge. I even put sauce on mine.. Probably an item kids would like more than adults. I know as a kid one of my favorites here was the bean cups with hot sauce.

And while Taco Bell offers multiple choices of salsa, theres only 1 here. The packets simply say "hot sauce". As far as heat level goes, I'd rank it above Taco Bells hot, and maybe closer to the Fire level.

You may have thought I made a typo, earlier, but yes theres a menu item called the "chilada" its an enchilada. Aside from being served in a paper boat, and being topped with shredded cheese, it comes with one odd item, it has sliced black olives on top. Its definitely different, and one of those items you will either love or hate. Keep in mind this is an enchilada from a drive thru fast food Mexican restaurant.

Taco Casa is one of those places that small town residents love, its cheap, its fast, used to be crazy cheap, like eat until you couldn't hold any more for $5 cheap.. But those days have gone, and while the prices have gone up, its still pretty cheap. Just 5 years ago I was traveling with friends and all 3 of us ate for less than $20.

If your a Taco Bell fan, you might wanna give this place a try next time you pass one, or if you just like crispy tacos, because these are actually pretty good.

Its always hard to score a place like this, but if we are talking crispy tacos, fast food, portions and price. This is easily an 8-9..
