Good Enchiladas & Puffy Tacos. One Of The Best Combo Plates Ive Had.

I think this is my 2nd time reviewing this restaurant, prices were higher on my most recent visit. But the order I received To-Go was pretty large. I ordered 2 #1 lunch plates. Each had 2 Cheese Enchiladas and 2 Beef Puffy Tacos.

When I got the order home, I found that it also included a small salad with guacamole, and the amount of enchilada chili and melted cheese in the To-Go box was amazing, and nearly overflowing.

It had really good flavor, excellent texture. Enchiladas were cooked just right, the sauce and cheese was enough to get some with every bite of enchilada. I was overly pleased with what was received.

I believe the most recent menu I had, the plate was listed as $10.25, but when I arrived for pickup the plate was $14 if I'm not mistaken.

I called in my order, arrived about 10 minutes later and the order was ready at the register. I might go as far as to put this plate in my top 5 in San Antonio as far as Cheese Enchiladas & Puffy Tacos go.

    Enchiladas & Puffy Tacos Consistent.

Angelicas just opened 2 weeks ago. They have other locations around town, and this new location took over the former location housed by El Tipico on Goliad Rd, near Bill Miller Ln.

I'd never eaten at any of their locations and since I live nearby I decided to give this place a try. I went in on a weekday, early dinner, we were seated immediately, and the insides looked totally different from the previous restaurant. The biggest thing was that El Tipico was always dimly lit. This place had led lighting, and was bright inside, with lots of murals, fiesta style decorations, and color.

The menu was pretty comprehensive. Filled with many combos, including enchiladas, puffy tacos, crispy tacos, carne guisada, fajitas and more. Plates started around $5ish for senior plates, which were basically 1 enchilada plates, and increased from there, 3 enchilada plate $7.89, and 2x2 plates (2 enchilada 2 puffy tacos) for $10.25.

Food came out fairly quick, large portions of everything. I ordered the 2x2. Lots of rice, lots of beans, a small salad with guacamole, 2 cheese enchiladas, and 2 beef puffy tacos.. For $10.25 this was a lot of food. My only criticism on the food would be the picadillo they used on the puffy tacos, it was very juicy, and the tacos quickly fell apart making them inedible by hand. The tacos needed a little salt as well. Everything else was pretty good.

My other criticism would be the service. At entry I stopped to read the chalkboard of specials, and was told "no specials today".. Despite the chalkboard having a fish plate, and the sign outside saying something about 1/2 price enchiladas (shown in photos).. Once the food arrived, my table was completely ignored the rest of the visit. No checkups, no offers of refills on the tea. I walked up to the counter, got my own to-go box and walked back to my table, and I don't think anyone noticed. Also for those who don't speak Spanish, you may have to change waitresses, I understand and speak enough I was able to order without trouble.
