On The Hunt For Fried Seafood, And Captain Curts Has It.
I was on the hunt for some good fried seafood in the Sarasota area, and this place was recommended as a good place to try. I'd already visited some other places in town, but it seems baked, grilled and blackened are the more popular options in the region. Fried seemed a bit harder to find unless you were looking for it.
This was my first time eating at Captain Curts, and I was with 2 other people, so I decided to try a bit of everything I commonly like. Captain Curts seemed to have everything fried. I ordered a calamari, and fried alligator appetizer as well as the seafood extravaganza plate. My dining partners ordered the rib basket and the a fish grilled fish and shrimp plate.
The calamari and fried alligator came out, the batter was thin, had a little bit of seasoning to it, but were not as good as I was hoping for. I love a good fried alligator, and try it every chance I get, but the difference from one place to another can be drastic. This place fell in the middle.
The seafood extravaganza plate, a mix of flavors featuring fried fish, clams, and shrimp was great. The fish was flaky and perfectly fried. It seemed this plate would probably satisfy my craving for some fried seafood.
Opting for rice and coleslaw as my sides proved to be a wise choice. The rice was fluffy and coleslaw provided a nice departure from all the fried goodness.
Service at Captain Curt's was commendable, with a waiter who not only ensured our dining experience was seamless but also went the extra mile by supplying a bowl and water for our dog. This thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to our evening, making us feel genuinely welcome.
I would definitely return to try some more items, as many of those I tried this visit were very good, they werent the fantastic fried seafood I was looking for, but this place definitely has a menu offering everything as a fried option.— Paul
