Decent Fried Seafood, Diverse Menu in the Touristy Area
Nestled in the heart of Siesta Key, Florida, Captain Curt's stands as a local gem promising a delightful seafood experience. On my recent visit, I opted for sampling of fried seafood dishes – calamari, fried alligator, and the enticing seafood extravaganza plate.
Starting with the calamari, I found it to be somewhat underwhelming. While it retained a tender texture, it lacked the vibrant flavors I had anticipated. The accompanying dipping sauce provided a hint of zest but couldn't completely elevate the overall experience.
Similarly, the fried alligator left room for improvement. Although expertly fried to a golden crisp, a lack of seasoning hindered its potential. A bolder flavor profile would have elevated this dish, making it a standout rather than just a passable option.
What truly stood out, however, was the seafood extravaganza plate – a delightful medley of fried fish, clams, and shrimp. The fish was flaky and perfectly fried, the clams offered a pleasing texture, werent chewy like some places, and the shrimp were plump and succulent. This combination showcased Captain Curt's ability to shine in crafting a satisfying seafood feast.
An interesting aspect to note is the rarity of fried seafood in the island areas, where many restaurants typically favor broiled or baked preparations. Captain Curt's deviation from this norm with a menu that almost exclusively listed every kind of seafood imaginable, all fried.
Choosing rice and coleslaw as my sides proved to be a wise decision. The fluffy rice and coleslaw provided a refreshing and counterpoint to all the fried selections.
Service at Captain Curt's was commendable, with a waiter who not only ensured our dining experience was seamless but also went the extra mile by supplying a bowl and water for our furry companion. This thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to our evening, making us feel genuinely welcome.
Captain Curt's manages to create a dining experience that encapsulates the beach cantina vibe, with fried seafood and excellent service. While some of the appetizers may have fell short of my expectations, the overall ambiance and standout service, combined with a massive offering of entrees makes this Siesta Key eatery a worthwhile destination for seafood enthusiasts.
