Previous Visit Was Better, Customer Service & Food Wise.
It's been a while since I last visited River City Grille, but I've enjoyed several meals here, making it one of my preferred stops when passing through Marble Falls, TX. Nestled just off US-281, right after crossing the bridge, this establishment offers a diverse menu with many standout options. On top of that, if the weather permits, there's a scenic cliffside deck providing a delightful view of the river.
During one of my recent visits, I opted for the catfish and shrimp plate, accompanied by a refreshing glass of strawberry lemonade. The catfish, in particular, stood out as some of the best I've had – perhaps not claiming the top spot, but certainly ranking within my top 5. The fish had a remarkably clean taste, avoiding the often off-putting "fishy" flavor associated with catfish. Lightly battered and perfectly cooked, the catfish featured a thin, crisp breading and a moist, tender interior that effortlessly fell apart on the fork. The shrimp, hushpuppy, and rice contributed to a well-rounded and flavorful dining experience. Overall, I left that day pleasantly surprised by the exceptional quality of my meal.
The strawberry lemonade, a new addition to my order, turned out to be a delightful surprise. Served in a glass rimmed with sugar and adorned with fresh strawberries, it not only looked appealing but also offered a tasty and refreshing beverage with complimentary refills.
However, my most recent visit was marred by subpar service. My order was incorrect, the grilled squash arrived cold, and the catfish, usually a star, was disappointingly thin and chewy, suggesting potential overcooking.
Unfortunately, my drink was neglected, with no refills provided. Oddly, others at my table reported enjoying their dishes, adding to the mystery of the inconsistent experience on the items I ordered. It's unclear why such a disparity occurred between visits, but I sincerely hope that the restaurant has since returned to its previous high standards. As it has been at least six months since my last visit, it's challenging to ascertain the current quality.
Attached are photos of other dishes ordered at my table, including the pork chop plate, steak and shrimp, and a loaded potato. Prices are reasonable, falling within the $17-25 range for most plates, making River City Grille an accessible choice for a satisfying meal.
