  Chili Style Enchilada Sauce. I Tried It.

  After seeing numerous individuals recommend Oscar's Taco House the past two years, I decided to try it for myself. I visited on a Friday night around 7 pm, and to my surprise, it wasn't too crowded.
  
  The setting, reminiscent of Ray's Puffy Tacos, was an older 1950s-style building with a drive-up patio and a sign urging patrons to flash lights for car service.
  
  Having driven past the building many times, It wasn't until I was there and parked, that I became aware that the entrance was on the neighborhood street side, and not the side facing Nogalitos.
  
  Following the many recommendations I had read online, I opted for "The Sleeper," a combination plate featuring 2 cheese enchiladas, a beef puffy taco, a chalupa, rice, and beans. The menu boasted a diverse selection of items, including fried fish, burgers, and even a chicken-fried steak.
  
  My food arrived promptly, in less than 10 minutes from placing the order. The enchiladas, with nearly fully melted cheese, were generously smothered in a meaty chili.
  
  While the cheese enchiladas had decent flavor, I wasn't overly fond of the chili, which seemed akin to a beanless campfire chili with extra chili powder.
  
  The puffy taco, unfortunately, lacked the desired crispiness, with only a slight crunch at the very edge. The flavor reminded me of puffy tacos from the old Taco Hut, but even those were crispier. Adding some green salsa and salt brought these tacos to life, but still left me longing for a crisper shell.
  
  The beans were satisfactory, but the rice had a unique flavor profile. Although I couldn't pinpoint the taste, it seemed to be a tart & sweet spice, possibly tamarind. The rice wasn't bad, but definitely different.
  
  I noticed that no one had checked on my table for a while, and I wondered if the staff was assigned specific tables. When I made eye contact with the waiter who took my order, he promptly came over. It only took a few moments of watching the wait staff, before a waitress noticed me, smiled and approached, followed by a third waitress a few minutes later. It seemed previously they were giving me space to enjoy my meal. But immediately noticed when I was looking at them.
  
  I decided to take the remaining beans and tortilla to go as a taco, which turned out to be quite satisfying. The freshness of the tortilla was evident even several hours later.
  
  My entire meal with a canned soda was $12, an affordable meal, with a decently sized portions. Keep in mind this was one of the largest plates they offer.
  
  In summary, the experience at Oscar's was good, and while the chili wasnt neccessarily my favorite, the enchiladas were good, the puffy taco was enjoyable, especially with added salsa, and the pricing was very reasonable. Earning a solid 8.5 out of 10.
