Great Cuban Food, Patio Seating with a Nice View.
Another well renowned restaurant in the Sarasota FL area is Columbia. Serving food in Florida since 1905, they have earned the title of Florida's Oldest Restaurant.
With multiple locations and a rich tradition, the Columbia Restaurant is celebrated for its signature 1905 salad, a culinary masterpiece that has earned accolades on various foodie lists, and was once named best salad to make a meal of. I couldnt dine there without trying it.
With many choices on the menu, I opted to order the Steak Salteado, tenderloin tips sauteed in olive oil, spanish onions, peppers, garlic, mushrooms, potatoes, chorizo and red wine. Served with yellow rice, it was a plate that seemed very appealing.
I wondered if this item would unseat one of my "Best Food Anywhere" winners, it was also a tenderloin medallion entree served with rice and veggies.
To complement the Cuban flavors of my meal, I indulged in a classic Mojito—a refreshing choice that seemed fitting for the occasion.
**1905 Salad**
The 1905 salad, a culinary spectacle prepared tableside, showcased a blend of flavors that set it apart from conventional salads. Noteworthy elements including the use of Worcestershire sauce and thick strips of cheese and ham.
Though not a fervent salad enthusiast, I found myself enjoying a more than substantial portion, with the caveat that the half order, even alongside a full entree, is more than the average person can comfortably consume.
**Steak Salteado**
The arrival of our entrees, brought forth a colorful plate of beef and vegetables. A bite into the tenderloin revealed its tenderness and robust flavor, enhanced by the medley of vegetables cooked alongside it, the caramelized onions and a red wine sauce that added sweet and savory dimensions to the dish.
**Final Impression**
The overall dining experience at the Columbia Restaurant was exceptional. The service was attentive, the portions generous (perhaps even overly so), and the flavors delivered a unique and satisfying journey for the palate.
**Thank You!**
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Yolie Guadiana and her husband for the generous invitation to dine at this culinary gem.
