  • ★★★★½ Cheese Enchiladas Beef Puffy Taco Carne de Puerco Visited Nov 11, 2023

Great Puffy Tacos, Enchiladas Are Decent.

Just ate at Camila's again, for maybe the 4th time since they opened. So far I've tried the Cheese Enchiladas, The Chile Adovada, & the Puffy Tacos. Out of these items the puffy tacos are the winner.

On this most recent visit I ordered the #17 Deluxe Plate, 2 enchiladas, a puffy taco, a milanesa steak, rice & beans. All this was about $12, and it was a ton of food.

The enchiladas were same as before, not bad but not in my top 10, the puffy taco was again, very good.. If you like puffy tacos you should definitely try this place, they are in my top 10 puffy tacos. The milanesa steak was pretty plain, tender, but didnt really add much flavor to the meal, and the rice and beans were good as usual. Portions here are pretty decent, and prices about average on most items.

The puffy tacos here have a good shell, the dough is still soft and chewy inside but the outside has a crunch and is flakey, they are decently thick, and have a good amount of filling inside. The ground beef filling has good flavor, almost like its in a gravy of its own and everything comes together to make a great puffy taco.

Service at the restaurant has been good across all 3 visits. Portions have been a good size every time, food has come out decently quick every time, and in the evening there hasn't been a wait on any of my visits.

I'll elaborate on the other items mentioned from previous visits. The cheese enchiladas were decent, but I just didnt care for the type of sauce/chili that was on them, I felt the cheese was a bit dense, not liquified enough from baking and a bit chewy for my taste. As for the Carne de Puerco I hoped it would be more like chile adovada in New Mexico, but it wasnt. The meat was not as tender and moist as I had hoped for. It was more like pulled chicken, and the chile sauce was very light, and didnt seem like it was cooked in it. New Mexican chile adovada is more like a stew, with a ton of sauce. I think it was also made with an arbol or guajillo based chile which doesnt have the flavor of a New Mexican hatch or other pepper. While both plates were decent, neither of them were a top 10 item. As you can see I ordered the enchiladas twice. Dont get me wrong, they arent bad, but I try the cheese enchiladas at every place I visit, so I've tried a lot of them.

The service is good, the puffy tacos are great, and Im sure theres some other gems on the menu, just working my way thru it a little at a time. The mole enchiladas are probably next on my list.

Camila's is located on the end of the gas station across from QT on Lookout Rd & 1604.
