  Amazing Shaking Beef, Best Wonton Soup. Lots of Menu Items

  I've been eating at A Dong for a few years now, and I will say the food has been consistent since they first opened. The shaking beef and the wonton soup are my favorite items here, but I've also tried the shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce, the vermicelli noodle bowls, and a few other items, and everything has been excellent.
  
  The large order of Wonton soup comes in a bucket to go, or a large bowl in the restaurants, includes strips of BBQ rib meat, and lettuce. If you order the cup size, it doesnt include the lettuce, which is really needed to get the best flavor on the soup. I requested some lettuce in my small cup and they said no problem.
  
  The Shaking Beef, listed on the menu as Bo Luc Lac, or #55 is amazing if you like steak and salad. The meat is tender cubes of steak cooked in a wok with a lime, onion, red onion, & garlic. Its cooked until barely crisped on the outside, med-well inside, and then served on top of a bed of lettuce. A small bowl of salt & pepper, and lime is included for additional seasoning. This item is packed with flavor. It does have quite a bit of garlic, but the combination of everything on the plate is absolutely amazing. I've tried this item at about 3 other places, and no one comes close. This is the place to get this item!
  
  It also comes with a large portion of rice, which is great to mix in or eat with the liquid on the place.
  
  Also shown in the photos is some Chinese broccoli with beef, was also very good, from a previous visit.
  
  Service here is always good to great, prices are decent, not overly expensive, and during the winter I drop by just for a large order of the Wonton. Especially if you have a cold, it really hits the spot.
  
  A Dong recently opened a location on the North-Central part of San Antonio near Dezavala & I-10, but I havent tried it, I always visit the Universal City location.
  
  If your a fan of Wonton Soup, Vietnamese food, or want to try some new items this is a great spot. Id rank A Dong in my top 3 Asian restaurants in San Antonio. I highly recommend them.

  Amazing Shaking Beef (Bo Luc Lac) Best I've Found Anywhere So Far

  The Bò Lúc Lắc, pronounced "Bow Luck Lack" or Shaking Beef is absolutely amazing. Its seared steak medallions cooked in a sweet soy sauce with a heavy garlic flavor. Served on top of a bed of onion, lettuce & tomato. A small bowl of salt, pepper and lemon is given to further season the meat and salad to taste. I have yet to find this dish prepared better anywhere else.
  
  A-Dongs Wonton Soup is absolutely amazing as well. The large order comes served with rib meat strips, and lettuce leaves in it. The flavor of this wonton blows away any wonton I've had elsewhere. When its cold out, or I'm sick, I will call in to order a large bowl to go. The large is easily enough to feed 2-3 people as an appetizer. You'd never imagine wonton soup could be this good. I have no idea what the secret is.
  
  Then there's the Vermicelli noodle dish with grilled pork and fried spring roll on top. This item comes with a bowl of sauce, containing fish sauce, carrots, and other spices. I would caution ordering this item, as its definitely going to be a love it or hate it on the sauce. Without the sauce the dish is just a bit bland.
  
  I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to broaden their food experiences. Its a great place for authentic Vietnamese food, & fresh vegetable dishes. I've tried about a half dozen items on the menu and all were good, but the ones mentioned above stand out above the rest..
  
  Service here has been minimal unless you need it. The staff tends to keep an eye on all the tables, but not approach unless they see you look at them. Which I have no problem with. Food prep times have been fast on nearly all visits, and the food has been consistent over the years.
