Amazing Shaking Beef, Best Wonton Soup. Lots of Menu Items
I've been eating at A Dong for a few years now, and I will say the food has been consistent since they first opened. The shaking beef and the wonton soup are my favorite items here, but I've also tried the shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce, the vermicelli noodle bowls, and a few other items, and everything has been excellent.
The large order of Wonton soup comes in a bucket to go, or a large bowl in the restaurants, includes strips of BBQ rib meat, and lettuce. If you order the cup size, it doesnt include the lettuce, which is really needed to get the best flavor on the soup. I requested some lettuce in my small cup and they said no problem.
The Shaking Beef, listed on the menu as Bo Luc Lac, or #55 is amazing if you like steak and salad. The meat is tender cubes of steak cooked in a wok with a lime, onion, red onion, & garlic. Its cooked until barely crisped on the outside, med-well inside, and then served on top of a bed of lettuce. A small bowl of salt & pepper, and lime is included for additional seasoning. This item is packed with flavor. It does have quite a bit of garlic, but the combination of everything on the plate is absolutely amazing. I've tried this item at about 3 other places, and no one comes close. This is the place to get this item!
It also comes with a large portion of rice, which is great to mix in or eat with the liquid on the place.
Also shown in the photos is some Chinese broccoli with beef, was also very good, from a previous visit.
Service here is always good to great, prices are decent, not overly expensive, and during the winter I drop by just for a large order of the Wonton. Especially if you have a cold, it really hits the spot.
A Dong recently opened a location on the North-Central part of San Antonio near Dezavala & I-10, but I havent tried it, I always visit the Universal City location.
If your a fan of Wonton Soup, Vietnamese food, or want to try some new items this is a great spot. Id rank A Dong in my top 3 Asian restaurants in San Antonio. I highly recommend them.
